The front office staff will administer these entrance exams before the course starts. Certified Nurse Assistant  Program (cna)

Students will learn the theory and skills needed to pass the California Department of Public Health CNA exam. Topics include body mechanics, infection control, patient rights, vital signs, and personal care. Students will participate in direct patient care at a long-term care facility. Theory must be completed before clinical instruction. Enrollment is limited to 8 students. All CNA students must complete a medical terminology class.
 
Additional Requirements:
All CNA students are required to co-enroll in one of the medical terminology classes (exception: proof of prior completion of medical terminology or anatomy/physiology) Students must purchase their materials and textbooks by the first day of class.

CMA

This program will train students to assist health care professionals by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Clinical Instruction includes infection control, preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine, laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, phlebotomy, and EKG techniques. Administrative instruction includes patient education and an introduction to medical ethics and law. Students will participate in laboratory exercises to enhance their ability to perform in a medical office.
This course qualifies students to take the National Health Career Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam.
CMA students are required to co-enroll in the medical terminology course, which meets on Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m. Jan 21-Apr 29 at Green Valley Center
 
Students must purchase their own textbooks, stethoscope, and blood pressure cuff and national exam.
NHA National Certification:
This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Health Career Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Exam.

Certified Home Health Aide

Certified Nurse Assistants have the opportunity to become CDPH certified to work for an agency that provides non-medical, supportive in-home care (under the supervision of a registered nurse and according to a care plan). Students will learn how to provide: personal care, exercise, ambulate, transfer, and nutrition services for clients in their home. Students must pass the 20-hour theory portion of the course before they begin the 20-hour clinical portion of the course.

Although this course is open to all students, all CNA and CMA students are required to enroll in medical terminology. This course is designed to provide foundational information that is essential to pass the CNA and CCMA exams. Students will learn about body systems, diseases, medications, treatments, and word pronunciation. Anyone interested in enrolling in a health career program will benefit from this course.
NOTE: A certificate of completion is provided after this course. Students must purchase a textbook for this course.

 CAREGIVER/PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANT

Personal care assistants help people who are living with a physical or mental disability and who live at home. Students will learn how to help clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and moving around the home. In addition, students will learn how to provide emotional support and accompany clients to medical appointments. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible for a certificate of completion.
NOTE:  This course is required for Administrative Medical Assistant students.

Administrative MEDICAL Assistant Program

This 50-hour course prepares students to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry. Medical Administrative Assistants, Medical Secretary, and Medical Records Clerks are all positions in great demand. This program covers important background information on the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances. This program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration so that a student can gain the necessary skills required to obtain a Medical Administrative Assistant position in the health care field.
This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Medical Administrative Assistant (MAAC) Exam., and the National Health Career Association Certified Medical Assistant (CMAA) exam. Students will be eligible to participate in a 40 hour clinical externship after the theory portion of the course.

This course provide students with the specialized skills and compassionate approach necessary to work as a Hospice and Palliative Care Aide. Students will learn to support individuals facing terminal illness and those requiring end-of-life care, focusing on comfort, dignity, and holistic well-being. Key topics include understanding the principles of palliative and hospice care, effective communication with patients and families, pain and symptom management, psychosocial and spiritual support, and self-care practices for healthcare providers. Students will prepare to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary care teams to enhance patients’ quality of life during their final stages.

acute care/Patient care technician

This program provides essential support to patients in fast-paced medical settings like hospitals, emergency rooms, and urgent care centers. Unlike general CNAs, acute care
CNAs are trained to handle more critical and complex cases, often assisting patients who have severe or sudden health conditions. Students will learn how to assist nurses and doctors with medical procedures, prepare and sanitize equipment. Students will learn how to provide care to patients in a variety of hospital units like pediatrics, medicalsurgical, orthopedic, oncology, and obstetrics. This course qualifies students to take the Patient Care Technician National Exam.

Dental Assisting Program W/ Clinical externship

The 60 hour Dental Assisting Program  + 40 clinical externship prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions - Dental Assisting. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. This course covers the following key areas and topic - Administrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines. Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy; dental operatory; dental equipment, introduction to the tooth structure; primary and permanent teeth; the oral cavity and related structures; proper patient positioning; dental hand-pieces; sterilization; and other areas. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program.
 
National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiology Health and Safey (RHS) Examination.

Clinical Externship: As part of this Dental Assisting program, you will be eligible to participate in a 40 hour clinical externship.

EKG Technician Certification Program

EKG Technician Certification Program

This comprehensive 50 hour EKG Technician Cetification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take ASPT - Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician examination and other National Certification Examinations. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress
testing. Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform handson labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement, and other clinical practices.

Pharmacy Technician Program with  Clinical Externship

This comprehensive 50 hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lectures and hands-on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. This program meets the necessary requirements to take the Pharmacy Technician Certified Board (PTCB) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) exam and the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Pharmacy
Technician (PTAC) Exam. Students will be eligible to participate in an 80 hour clinical externship after completion of the theory portion of the course.

Students who have completed a clinical medical assistant training program are eligible to take the National Healthcareer (NHA) exam. The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam provides validation to employers that students have the most relevant knowledge and skills needed to provide comprehensive care to patients. Students who pass this exam, which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, can prove to employers that they are dedicated to excellence as a clinical medical assistant.
